I couldn’t have done this without Lillian’s help (my assistant seamstress). My daily accountability when she came to work and the expectation to post progress each week on the blog really makes this gal get on with things!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I am so pleased and happy with my office! Thanks to Lillian’s great eye for scope and scale and her artistry - the abstract painting above the cabinets, Lillian’s husband’s paint job(!), my husband’s brawn and tool expertise, as well as all the shopping and collecting and storage of said collections I’ve done over the years, the room came together so well. I had almost everything needed, and, if I didn’t, we certainly made most of it from my fabric stash! <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; line-height: normal; white-space: pre-wrap;">
Photos are courtesy of my old Kodak point and shoot and no real photo training at the time. The blue wasn’t as crazy as it looks in the photos and I really did love it until a couple of years ago when I wanted a change but didn’t know which direction. Mostly, I needed a place where I can shoot product photos in an attractive and changeable spot PLUS carry on design work and business in a serene location.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now we get to where half my work is done (the other half is in the sewing rooms). As this is a working office and photography space, there is a lot of movement in here and schlepping of lights and props, so we arrive at some wide open spaces on this side of the room. The bamboo chairs were a thirfted find last year. I was tempted to paint them shiny black but am so glad I left them in their original state. The seats are covered in a spotty animal print and easily covered again if I like with skirted seat cushion covers.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The desk is a DIY my husband made for me years ago. I spotted a pipe-legged desk in Country Living way back when and convinced Michael to make it for me. Now you can do a search for desk legs made from pipes and they are all over the place. I like being ahead of the game! I am a fan of mixing materials in a space, so the industrial legs are fun against natural elements.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The art above the desk includes my babies as they were 20 years ago and some painted art from bloggers I've met in the past. I kept these painted pieces safe for so long waiting for the perfect spot to display, and now here they are. The unframed piece sits in an iron napkin holder used like a display rack. The pin board above the desk is a large frame with a padded inset covered with linen fabric. We ran some twine across the board and attached small clothespins for attaching whatever catches my fancy.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Finally, the blank wall! Everyone who sees the room is in consternation over my blank wall! Are you leaving it white? Why don't you ...? I know, I know. BUT, I have to have a changeable place with as much wall space for wide views now that some of my products have gotten so large. My hope is to have a portable sort of barn door that I can roll in and out and which can cover the still-brown doors and moldings (to be painted white at some point). I can pull in furniture here, too, and buffet height tables for staging. Meanwhile, let me show you what I can do with this space. You'll see it wide open first, then a shot with beaded board behind it, and finally with a decorative wooden panel my daughter gave me. Lillian made the slipcover for my bench, and that, too, gives me options for a white space or a textured stripe.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Not sure I can express how difficult it is to create for oneself when designing and creating everyday for others! The cobblers children have no shoes ...
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This One Room Challenge to redo my office seemed reasonable when signing up, as I had been thinking on this change for so long and had so many details lined up ... I thought! I've been working so hard over the last eight years in my outside job and building my sewing / embroidery business and helping my kids get through college that I've lost a lot of skills I had long, long ago when I knew how to make a pretty home. I really feel at a loss putting just this room together. The thought of making these decisions room by room in the rest of the house is quite overwhelming if I think on it long. It's one thing to have a Pinterest board full of great ideas and quite another to execute them!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I find it has been easier to be a small part of other ORC participants' rooms. This year, Kimber is back for our handmade embroidered towels. The first I ever heard of ORC was when Kimber ordered monogrammed panels for her tropical glam master bedroom redo in 2013.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last year, Andrea ordered jumbo monogrammed shams for her lovely Palm Beach Regency Nursery. One idea turned into the next, and we ended up with monogrammed crib sheets as well as monogrammed shower curtain and hand towels for the bath. (Once was enough, though. I broke up with shower curtains shortly after; way too big for my comfort!)
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In both instances, seeing my work in those beautiful rooms is amazing. I'm used to my items right up under my nose and only see them in micro version on my worktable. That is why I adore receiving photos of CDH items in their new homes. I feel like my pieces are bits of jewelry that help finish off all the big decisions everywhere else in a room.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Back to my studio office:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today, Lillian worked on filling and staging my bookshelves. The idea of photo shoots near the window came to me last week, so we are working on making the shelves in the camera view as pleasing as possible. My niece blogged about her Guest Room Makeover earlier in the year, and I am attempting to be as chic as she is but not sure it is possible!

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The matchstick bamboo blinds went up, and I don't like them! Ha! Another week of failed decisions, sort of. I guess I should say that I can eliminate initial choices and now try new ones. I think I might try roller shades next. Working on the monogrammed valances this weekend.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We started to put up the pendant lights and shades, and then I got nervous about what to do with the cords. I think I've decided on this cord cover over flexible tube solution. I am hoping a creamy white linen for the cover will blend in best.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, my to do list is below. I hope I'm on time next week for the Big Reveal. Even if I don't get the entire list complete, just getting this far has been a major success. Wish me luck!
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A whirlwind trip to Nashville and The Country Living Fair last week meant that I missed the Week Three update of my office redo for the One Room Challenge guest participants. Weeks One and Two included getting the room cleaned out and painted and working on the feature wall. I'm still in misery over the fact that I didn't like my feature wall choice and have absolutely no idea which direction to turn! Going from my blue walls to a pearly gray has completely thrown me off regarding staging photos and working with the wall color. It's crazy how one small-ish change can create a domino effect of details required to get the perfect photo.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This was my first trip to Nashville, and I met up with my BFF, Lynda, from Memphis. A lovely time meeting vendors at the fair and shopping and eating our way through Nashville. I finally found great food trucks! I made it to Draper James! The loveliest boutique you'll ever meet. As we walked in, I was pretty happy to see a stack of Monograms For the Home on a display table, as some of my work appear in the pages. Lynda reached over to open the book, and the pages fell right open to a CDH applique towel. Could NOT have planned that myself! The sales girls were sweet enough to let me show off the other pages of calicodaisy handmade items.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I walked away with a little notepad for the desk all wrapped up in lovely DJ paper. Reese has made beautiful packaging choices.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Meanwhile, I really have been thinking through the finishes for the office. I've been collecting accessories for the room and auditioning fabrics from my stash for the bamboo chair seat covers. What do you think? Stacked bottom to top are: Covington's Tuscany in linen, a tropical banana leaf and hibiscus in case I want to go with a pop of color, Stroheim Giselle in Indigo, <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Thibaut's Haleema (my favorite), and Ralph Lauren Home Antibes Batik.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So, that's where I am. My daughter promised to come by this weekend and help me make final decisions. Monogrammed curtain valances and bamboo shades are up after the seat covers and then the lighting and staging the bookcases. I see all the beautiful rooms blossoming on the ORC updates, and I feel like mine can hardly compare to the gorgeous finishes going on, BUT, my office is clean and tidy now and will be a lovely spot to greet my visitors. See you here next week.
interior designer myself, I am a bit wary of the commitment, however, I have been
planning this makeover and collecting items for ages and have nearly
everything needed. There is just the
hard work to put in and the courage to actually execute the plan.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While the husband was
choosing door frames and molding at Home Depot a few weeks ago, I hung out at
the magazine rack. Flipping through
Cottage Style magazine, I landed on a bedroom layout admiring the serene space
and thought, "Hmmm, I have nearly everything needed to create this look,
and I must make a monogrammed bolster wrap right now!" Nice to have a creative spark and design idea
to update my own guest room – and the stuff to do it at home already, too.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As I've never painted walls
before, I started with the bedding.
Lillian (the seamstress!) sewed up a perfect zippered white bolster and
two shams in a lovely textured neutral taupe while I spent way too many hours trying
to create a new combo-font duogram for the wrap. Hours later, we were ready to test out the
look. So pretty! You'll have to ignore the yellow walls and the
green metal bed – soon to be gray walls and a spray-painted charcoal gray metal
bed. For the window, I'm planning a
monogrammed (of course!) valance that can be swapped out with floor length
panels. There is a chair to slip cover as well. Coming soon … hopefully before
the next guest arrives.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As we finished up a tan
and white South Pointe sham, it occurred to me this king sham would look
great in front of the solid standard shams.
On the way upstairs with the camera, I grabbed the new Bordeaux Flourish
monogrammed pillow for a third vignette to show off bedding accessory options. So, same basic bedding but three different
looks.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another same but different
situation around here is … ME! My
20+-year career as a Medical Transcriptionist, both as home biz since 1998 and
a part-time job with a hospital since 2008, is over. Well, it is over as I knew it to be, and my coworkers
and I were replaced by voice recognition.
Technology! We've known for a
year it was coming, so I prepared myself the best I could with plans to go
full–time with calicodaisy handmade.
Lillian started working with me this summer as my seamstress. She comes with lifelong knowledge of sewing
and a real Home Economics degree. She is
such a joy to have around and gets pretty much just as excited as I do over a
beautiful seam or a properly hidden zipper.
I couldn't have a better assistant to hang out in the studio with
me.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We have loads of new
products lined up and hope to start ticking them off one by one, week by week,
and chatting about it all here again.
This week the bolster wrap. Next
week, maybe new table linens – just got started on those today.

Nearly once a month for the last few years, I’ve made a day of heading to a fabric mill for the once a month, open to the public, weekend sale. On those trips, I’ve loaded up on my hard to find, white home decor fabric for pillow covers as well as on LOADS of home decor fabric that aren’t necessarily for my orders … fabric lovers will know what I mean. The fabrics are chosen for two reasons – 1) I must have this fabric! 2) I could offer the great finds in my shop for other sewists who, like me, must have this fabric!

My bounty has included lovely fabrics from Schumacher, Tilton and Fenwick, Verrain, Ralph Lauren, and many more designers I hadn’t even head of until researching the fabrics. The bulk of my finds have been from the Premier Prints Designer Collections. Swiss cross, chevrons, damasks, Greek key, so many. This month I picked up what seem to be brand new designs in a new Tribal Collection – Pawnee and Phase.

However, I find myself in a fix at the moment. My embroidery machine was zapped by lightening last week, and I am sitting on pins and needles – no pun intended – waiting to find out if the machine can be fixed or if I must purchase a new one. In an effort to stay on the bright side of life, I am focusing on the fact that I still have my original one-needle machine AND there are so many half-started and unfinished ideas that I now have time to tend to at least while the big machine is down.

.
January is generally a quiet and cozy month here. We settle into resting up after the holidays and new year organization. It's the only month that I really give in to the early sunset and snuggle up in pj's and quilts and watch too much TV. This third week of the month, though, is always time to celebrate a January birthday for the husband. The kids like to make the dinner plan, and I like to make the dessert!
.
In December, I spotted a caramel frosted cake that looked delish, but I totally lost the link and had to put my own best ideas together to hopefully get it right today. I decided on my favorite Southern Living Buttermilk Pound Cake and Caramel Icing. Alas, in my attempt to bake the recipe in two rounds rather than the bundt, I left the cakes in the oven too long and felt they were too brown and smelled a bit burnt. One can't give a burnt birthday cake, so I decided to make another cake but different recipe (I didn't have another six eggs!), see below. Meanwhile, I trimmed off all the too-brown edges and bottoms of the pound cakes - mustn't waste the beauties. I made the cooked caramel icing, so easy!, iced cake #2 with the glazey stuff, and then I added about a cup or more of powdered sugar, more butter, and milk to the rest of the icing and changed it to a frosting for the pound cake layers. Wow! Dense, rich, and marvelous!
.
Cake #2 is the Buttermilk Birthday Cake with the Caramel Icing. The recipe looked like it would make a nice moist cake, and it did. It's really a just-the-right size cake, not too big, and nice and fragrant. In my excitement over the pretty cooked caramel icing just made, I didn't trim the top off the bottom layer, so the top layer slipped a bit. Sheesh! I was so busy working all last year with practically no homemaking that I obviously lost some baking skills. A few well placed tooth picks stopped the sloping. Let's just call it rustic happiness.

Camille and I made quick little flags in my studio to decorate the cakes. Fabric rectangles folded and glued over wooden skewers thanks to Posie Gets Cozy. The set above is two of three shams that will decorate a room shared by three boys. Nice to have something for the boys, though now it might be time to make a change on the calicodaisy label to something less flowery. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-61746947468900496192013-03-17T09:34:00.001-04:002013-03-17T11:47:14.171-04:00Kiss Me! .
The best moves forward to new products in the shop are generally initiated by client requests, and now the custom bolster with optional design features is in the house! The first set ordered is created to match a set of the Veronique applique pillow covers (as seen here with my own monogrammed version). This bolster cover is photographed on a bolster 2" too large, thus the ends at the seams don't look very crisp here, but the pillow form was the closest I could find to the requested bolster cover size.
.

..
The client chose a ribbon bordered design with drawstring closure, 6" x 18". There are a number of sizes in the bolster world. Here is a mockup, though, of what the bolster might look like with a monogram. Instead of ribbon, one could choose piping at the ends. We could do closed ends and a zippered closure along the bottom seam. Applique. Lots of choices!

The shop is on hiatus right now while I move through a treasure trove of orders and try to mix in spring cleaning and my "day job." With all that on my plate (and all I really want right now is a large piece of fudgy chocolate cake on that plate), it will probably be Friday evening or Saturday before the doors open again if I can get to the scheduled target before the weekend.
.

.
Another client request created but not listed in the shop yet is a monogrammed / appliqued tissue box cover. I love it but am working out the details. What details could there be to consider on a tissue box cover? You'd be surprised ... or maybe I'm just surprised because I get worried over the littlest of choices - oval tissue opening or slit, lined or unlined, worth the effort for the competing price (?); sometimes it takes all my energy.

I'll be thinking and making a list of bolster options to be ready for new ideas that come my way for these. One task I should complete this week is staging the guest room and adding proper lighting so I can take photos of these custom bedroom decor items set up in their proper setting. My personal home decor has sure taken a big backseat to business building these last few years. Renew and refresh this spring should be my mantra. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-366485927428272202013-03-11T09:47:00.000-04:002013-03-11T09:51:46.622-04:00calicodaisy on the porch!

.
Just in time for new spring decor, there's an outdoor fabrics option at the calicodaisy shop both with and without embroidery. The range of outdoor fabrics is nearly as marvelous as inside home decor. Shown here is the classic calicodaisy look in solid shades of outdoor canvas.

Outside of choosing solids for pillow covers, custom orders will require the client to choose fabrics from online shops, send me the link of fabric desired, and then we will go from there. With embroidery, without embroidery, piping, no piping, zippered closure ... etc. There are a number of factors to take into consideration regarding the outdoor decor options.

Regarding embroidery on outdoor fabrics, there is a brand of embroidery thread that touts "colorfast and fade resistant." I can't guarantee the strength and length of that promise, but I imagine those who put the investment into an embroidered item for outdoor decor most likely plan to keep that item in a covered area. I'm looking forward to finding what new ideas come my way by client request!

Due to marvelous sales this early 2013 and the need for a good spring cleaning around the house and studio, the calicodaisy shop is on hiatus this week until Thursday or Friday. I am here working and available through shop convos and through e-mail, so if you have a pressing idea or want to get an order started in the next few days, just contact me either way, and I'll be in touch. Please stop by the calicodaisy FB page to keep up with new happenings around here and to contact me as well. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-2039079557838045342013-03-06T17:31:00.000-05:002013-03-06T17:31:19.626-05:00A Long Time From Start To Finish

You'll have to check out the backside of the quilt below. Back before piecing the back was popular to local sewers around here, my longarm lady was highly unimpressed with the pieced back. Though I might get obsessed with this new found skill, I must put the needles away and pay attention to studio orders. Great new ideas are pouring in, which keeps things fresh and busy. My favorite this month is a LONG lumbar monogram pillow cover at 14 x 28 inches. Lucky for me, a local client brought a bench over for me to create a cover, so I had a great prop stand to show off the long lumbar made with my own monogram. This damask was a find at the mill a couple of months ago, and I just love the vintage-y look on the loose weave fabric, and the piping covered in the same fabric creates a pretty frame without taking anything away from the design. This length will look great in front of pillow shams on the bed or, as in this case, to decorate a hall bench. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-81001062821018566372013-02-22T17:55:00.000-05:002013-02-22T17:55:08.791-05:00... and now she knits

.
Small dream come true! This gal's got her gauge on! Previous to these blogging years, I was completely satisfied being very good with the crochet hook and believed my gauge was just too tight to knit well. How times change! Reading Purl Bee and watching so many bloggers whip off gorgeous items, my favorites are baby bonnets and top-down cardigans, created quite the desire to get my gauge under control and cast on. Plus, I'm crazy to use the artisan variegated dyed yarns available, and I think they are best used for knit items. After a little lesson with friend who helped with the casting on and proper form as well as watching a number of YouTube tutorials, I started a 40-stitch swatch/scarf on #10 circulars to practice keeping it all even and changing colors.
.

.
As usual, one project isn't enough, so I searched around Ravelry and have so many favorites but decided on this LTK Pilot Cap because I can use worsted weight yarn and reasonably sized needles. This pattern calls for using markers (tied pieces of yarn for me), increasing with kfb, slip stitches, and soon decreasing. Can you see the pretty shaping in the photo at the top? The increases create that pretty V to contour to a sweet baby head. I hope it fits a sweet baby head properly; that will be gratifying as this is my first adventure in following a knitting pattern. If I get this one right, I will drop needle size and yarn weight and knit a fine little bonnet. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-31698493632484127392013-01-25T20:28:00.001-05:002013-01-25T21:56:18.744-05:00Started A Trip ...

.
... that I hope I can finish. Last week I succumbed to the pull of the Scrappy Trip Around The World quiltalong using the Quiltville tutorial. Goodness, I tried to resist; I have quite enough work due to others and business to attend to, but can I tell you how satisfying this quilt block is? Cut strips, sew strips, iron this way and that, make a tube, and then slice. Rip, rip, rip the little seams in a row, and all of a sudden the pattern appears just perfect. The way the seams that are ironed this way and that snap together under the sewing machine foot is dreamy and makes me feel like a professional quilter.

The only downside is fighting my need to depart from the random scrappiness. I tend to get wrapped up in the planning, and this isn't the purpose. The purpose is to destash. When I read Nanette's post about organizing the lights and darks, I started to hyperventilate worrying about the black and dark brown prints in the mix. So, now the plan is to hand around my strips basket to anyone who comes by the house or lives here and tell them to "put six strips together without looking" and then make them watch me sew them together for keeps.
.

.
I'm into this about 20 finished blocks right now and going for a queen coverlet size, about 90" x 90" ... maybe 80" x 80". I'll have to send it out to be quilted should I finish the thing. My favorite quilting design is the one FITF used.

We'll see ... a little distraction is a good thing, and the ever-needed DESTASH is a better thing, and the resulting "heirloom" will be the best thing ... if I finish. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-89324038149096578332013-01-14T11:09:00.003-05:002013-01-14T16:59:01.133-05:00A Rare Finish For The Home

About 18 months ago, a ripple/chevron crochet afghan was started. About two-thirds through when I was really loving it myself and imagining it in the family room, my daughter claimed it to be hers when complete.
.
Just as the story goes about the cobbler's children having no shoes and the other story that the daughter doesn't like the mother's style, the two tales combined equals my girl has a completed item of my design that she loves and will keep her warm and cozy, especially since my little bird flew the coop this month and moved to student housing!
.
Lots of new time on my hands and a very quiet house. Otherwise, a great finish! Well, nearly a great finish and nearly a finish for my home ... I just need to tie off all the yarn tails and decide which border to complete. The very simple ripple crochet pattern is linked on my ravelry page.
.

The first moments of this New Year found me downloading a free month of Photoshop/Illustrator in preparation for an online Illustrator class with Nicole's Classes. After following her blog for months wishing to take Illustrator 101, I jumped at the chance with a Cyber Monday discount.
.
It's mind blowing and frustrating and gratifying and fun all together. This is week two of class, and already our instructor has nicely taken us through a number of tools and Illustrator concepts. Week one homework was to create a typography poster using our text sizing and coloring skills. I wanted to be a lot hipper, but not so much after I saw the other participants' cool work. Not bad though.

Today, however, I hit gold! I have been CRAZY to have the dashed line to frame my label. A simple thing, I know, but as a modern sewist, I want my label to have that stitched frame. Now I know. (Hint: Rectangle tool with stroke adjustments.) The frame design isn't perfect today, but it will be. The lessons also covered pen and pencil tools, shapes, and line draw. I found myself doodling and made another poster design.
My mission is twofold. One, my embroidery software seems to be based on Illustrator type tools and I need to create vector graphics to digitize embroidery designs properly. Second, I want to create my own graphics for everyday marketing, packaging, and labeling of my work and blog. There is also a design in mind to send to Spoonflower for calicodaisy fabric printed to line my goods.
As holiday orders were winding down this month, I began sorting through baskets of samples and inventory created in the recent past but forgotten as new ideas and designs took over. There are several monogrammed items created for orders but put together with the wrong monogram letter set or color of fabric, otherwise no change in quality. These MisDesigns, as I call them, are in the calicodaisy shop ready to ship and priced at a discount. After searching for a pretty printable gift certificate over the past year, it was exciting to finally find one. My personalized GC file arrived this morning. Darling! Several denominations are available in the calicodaisy etsy shop, just right for the last-minute gift or the hard-to-choose-for one.

The gift certificate can be delivered in two ways: a printed version sent by snail mail or a PDF file delivered by e-mail to you or the recipient. Either way, the item will have all the pertinent information filled in and a special gift certificate code to keep everything in order. Expiration date is six months from the date of purchase.
.
Happy November! October just blew by with all sorts of busy-ness ending with a very fun week spent with my dearest friends and family in Atlanta attending The Country Living Fair for the second year in a row.

Unbelievable as it may seem, that mantra I began saying 11 months ago - "No Custom Orders in December!" has actually been changed to:

Last Day to Order Custom Items for Holiday Delivery: November 10,2012!
.
I've been on a four-week turnaround treadmill for over a month, and there is no getting off the train at this point. So, to be sure to get items out in time for holiday delivery and to ensure the post office has time to deliver the items in that crazy time of year, my plan is to be finished with custom orders on 12/10/2012. My son graduates from college just a week later, so I want to fully participate in that celebration and the upcoming holidays with no studio worries in mind.
.
Last year, I had the merry pillow cover as a calicodaisy 2011 holiday design. This year, a little more subdued design based on your color choices is "Silent Night" embroidered in a beautiful font and sewn up in a lumbar or square form style. Up until 11/10/2012, you can choose custom colors for holiday delivery. I plan to have a few in each size available for ready-to-ship status as well. Please Pin and FB share with anyone you know who might like this style. If there is time, I hope to get out "joy to the world" as well, but that might be a 2013 design!
Don't forget about the custom embroidered, reversible, 52" Christmas Tree skirt either! Please order in time, so I don't have to say, "No!" It will hurt me more than you think, but I have to cut off custom orders at 11/10/2012. That is only SEVEN FULL DAYS left.

With that, I will leave you to a pretty Sunday. We are praying for our nation as we go to the polls this Tuesday and praying even more fervently for those touched by Super Storm Sandy. calicodaisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12008271823369034342noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820341205372529316.post-74070840877325720322012-09-13T10:33:00.000-04:002012-09-13T10:33:02.233-04:00For The Sports Fan

Monogrammed pillow covers, sports themed pillow covers, appliqued pillow covers! Client driven requests have been a marvelous path to this current life of mine, but I really don't have anything else to talk about here. Reading through my favorite blogs, I want to be part of the interesting writing crowd and try to move beyond my studio routine, but only the latest pillow cover comes to mind because, well, that's what I do. I am off to Atlanta again in October, though, for the Country Living Fair and to hang out with best friends. I might have something fun to discuss then. It is crazy to think that a year has passed, especially because, other than a day trip to Charlotte in February and two trips to the fabric mill in the last two months, I haven't left town since I came back on 10/24/2011 from Atlanta last year. It is stunning how my daily work schedule consumes my whole life. Seems to be all or nothing. Not sure how to fix that.
On the other hand, out of that "time investment" comes new products for the shop and new plans to be relevant in the handmade market and internet presence as trends change.

Always looking for more masculine items to offer, a sports themed idea has been developing. Tailgaters and football lovers are always hungry for their team colors all over the place, but that can get overwhelming on the home decor. These designs might scream "my team!" to the sporty guy, but his colors and cheer are cleverly disguised in current home dec trends like chevrons and color block items. The lady of the house knows she got to give him some say in the decor, but set on a background of lovely fabrics, team colors are easier to fit into the family room and bedrooms.
